Swamp Thing

March 30, 2009

Today was a bonus day – instead of going to Work, my human stayed home to play with me today! We had pancakes for breakfast, and then we went for a long walk, and then I helped her do the crossword puzzle. And then we tried to go to the dog park, but the ranger man said it was closed! So we went to granpa’s house instead, and we walked through the marsh! That was very exciting, because there are so many things to see and smell and chase in the marsh! But then I realized that all the chaseable things could see me coming with my white fur, so I decided to make some camofloogee by covering myself with nice, dark mud. I got as far as covering my legs when my human said we had to go, and she said something about “stinky” and “all over the car” before she wiped off all my nice camofloogee! Hey! I worked hard on that!

Grandpa says he could cut a path through the marsh and then we could go even further back there – that would be fun!

My human says that when a bunch of grass gets together and grows tall, the humans call it a “prairie”, and there used to be big huge prairies all over, but now we just have small places where the humans make prairies like they used to be. There is a prairie place by our house, and I like walking by there because there could be many things for me to chase in the tall grass! We do not go in the prairie, though, because it says “No Dogs Allowed.” I guess I cannot be a prairie dog.

The other day, the prairie by us caught on fire! (I didn’t do it.) The fire happened during the day, so we did not see it because my human was at Work and I was guarding the house. But we heard about it, and walked by there later to see what happened. All the grass is gone! The ground is all black and wet, my human says from the fire humans who poured water on it. My friend Spencer lives over that way, I wonder if he saw anything?

I like fires when they are small, and stay inside a metal container in Grandpa’s back yard, but I think a big fire would be scary. I am glad I did not see it! I am also glad that the fire humans stopped the fire by pouring water on it. Yay for fire humans!

Morning Hunt

March 24, 2009

This morning I went outside in the yard to water the grass and do a perimeter check, when I saw something by the patio! I ran over there and pounced, and then there was a squeal and a skittering noise, and then I stood there and stared under the patio for a long time. I do not know what it was, but I wish I had caught him! Oh well – I know where he lives!

More Adventures with Grandpa!

March 18, 2009

Today was another fun day, because I got to play with Grandpa again! He came to get me, and then we went for a ride, and then we went to the store, and then we played catch in the yard! Then we sat on the porch for a while, and I guarded him from the intruder cat! “Go away, cat!” is what I said. And then we had suppers, and I got to have some hammaburger! Then my human came to get me, and I told her all about the fun things I did. What a good day!

Today was a very fun day, because! After my human went away for a little bit this morning, we were Outside all day! We went for a super long walk, and then we played in the yard! Well, I played in the yard, and she dragged a big plastic claw across the ground. And then! My friends came to the park to play, and they came to visit me and throw tennis balls for me! And then, we went to grandma and grandpa’s house to run run run, and there was a boy next door who threw tennis balls for me, too! Then we went home, and went for one more walk. Then I lay down on the couch and fell asleep, because I was very tired!

I like being Outside, especially when the sun is shining – there are no walls, and I can run around, and see all kinds of things, and smell all kinds of smells. Outside is the best!

Adventures With Grandpa

March 6, 2009

Today was very fun, because! In the afternoon I was guarding the house and waiting for my human to come home, when Grandpa came over! I saw him from the window, and then I waited at the top of the stairs for him. An adventure, oh boy! He took me for a ride and we went to his house – I played in the yard, and followed Grandpa around, and got covered in mud. And I met the neighbor man, and monitored the neighbor man’s cat. Then we were all standing out in the driveway talking, when my human drove up! I was so excited, I jumped all the way up to her nose! Then we played in the yard some more, and then! I killed a chicken! It was a tiny chicken, and he was on the ground, maybe he bonked into the window. I chased him and he tried to get away, but no such luck! I picked him up in my mouth and ran to the other side of the yard to eat him, but my human got grandpa and he got the tiny chicken from me and threw it into the big stick pile. I was disappointed, but that was OK, because later grandpa made real chicken on the grill, and I got to have some.

That was a very fun afternoon! I hope grandpa comes over again to spring me and have more adventures!

More Wildlife!

March 4, 2009

Last night I played with gramma and grandpa while my human did her singing, and that was fun, because I got to run free in the yard, and I had two popcorn stations to choose from (I prefer my popcorn “wet”, not “dry”). But then! When we were in the car, when we got close to home, we saw something walking across the road! It was furry and gray and had a round body and a long skinny tail and a light color face. It walked very slow across the road, and so we stopped the car and waited until he was all the way across. I stared at him, but I did not bark, because I did not know what it was.

My human thinks it was a this:
